Thanks for that Tony.I do know the chord tones for commonly used chord types, but need to speed up my processing of them while playing, as it takes me too long to figure out on the fly.same applies to the pentatonic scales.Probably a while before its time to send anything over.(now that I think of it, thats the main reason I never go to jam nights.Takes too long to work out the common notes linking the chord progressions)working on fretboard familiarity at the moment.chord tones and scales on single strings, linear virtuoso patterns, modes etc.

        Hi Tony.

With regard to yesterday’s webinar, firstly thank you.secondly,is there a lesson in the academy that explains how to know what chords you can play the pentatonic scales over?you did a demonstration over a Charlie Parker song-nows the time-and I saw it had loads of chords in it.major, minor, diminished, yet you knew to play one major pentatonic (two if you count the minor pentatonic you used too) that worked over them all.It sounded great, but the chord chart looked as if it needed loads of different chord tones to be used (and scales?) because there were so many chord changes. What should I be looking for when looking to fit a pentatonic scale over several different chords.

Hi Tony.Have you ever used wired headphones on stage instead of in ear monitors? I can never get these things to stay in my ears.I was looking to try a set of noise cancelling headphones, to try and block out some of the extranious noise on stage and to create a nice quiet controlled sound in my ears.I don’t fancy getting tinnitus.Have you have any advice? Thanks

                Hi Tony.

My question is about the melodic minor modes rather than the major modes .I hope its ok to post in this section.

I am nipping away at the melodic minor mode lessons and got confused on the altered scale lesson.Specificaly the scales we can use over the Dom 7 chord.I get the theory behind using the lydian modes but don’t get why we can use the Mixolydian here, seeing as there isn’t a “natural ” 4th degree in the altered scale. Is it a passing tension note between chord tones we can use?Apologies for not making the webinar. My laptop doesn’t seem to like zoom for some reason.

                  Hi Tony.

Yes,thank you.The mode studies on the fingerboard are definately a must, particularly the ones that go from the lowest to highest notes.I have been looking at a couple of sax solos with a view to transcribing thinking that might help .Also to see what notes are being played over the chords. And for phrasing .

Practice time 2hrs in the morning if possible,1 hr in the evening. Not every day but as often as possible.
Sight reading a fresh tune .One of my difficulties.Choosing the correct area to play is a bit tricky.Looking a bar or two ahead, choosing the best fingering, looking at the bass to find the notes, also remembering to stick to the Key signature and trying for good technique all at once.Once the metronome is on it all gets grabby and erratic.Once the piece is learned, all is good.

Horizontal playing.Very happy playing across the strings in a limited area.never did much playing up and down the one string until recently. So trying to play as much of the sight reading pieces on one string at the moment, just to try and get comfortable with it.
