TONY GREY BASS ACADEMY
CLINICS AND WORKSHOPS |
ABOUT TONYGREY |
Tony is a world-renowned jazz bassist who spent his early career studying at the Berklee School of Music. Over the last 20 years he's gone on to collaborate and tour with some of the world’s greatest musicians, such as: John McLaughlin, Hiromi, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Gavin DeGraw, Tomoyasu Hotei, Dennis Chambers, Bill Evans and many more.
Tony is also a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, published author and award-winning music educator who has taken the bass community by storm with the development of his ground-breaking bass education curriculum, showcased as the Tony Grey Bass Academy, the first ever documented online Academy in Bass Education.
THE BASS ACADEMY |
The Academy was initially intended to be a companion for his instructional book, Tony Grey Bass Academy: Jazz Bass Method; however, the Academy exceeded its initial vision and stands alone as a ground-breaking online music education curriculum, designed to take players from the beginning of their journey through music, all the way to the very end and beyond, learning music creatively rather than mechanically. A Philosophy developed by Grey, which now leads thousands of students to becoming the next generation of bass virtuosos.
TONY'S BASS CLINICS |
We have students from all over the world who study with Tony and our student base is growing everyday, which has encouraged and allowed us to travel extensively in order to reach more and more students who are seeking alternative learning opportunities. Our clinics not only promote the Academy by teaching the format of the curriculum, they also inspire players of all ages and levels to think about music and education from a different perspective. Tony’s approach to teaching an audience is phenomenal. He’s truly gifted with the ability to inspire and reach individuals on a level they rarely experience. This is something we hear time and again after putting on a clinic or masterclass. His “creative learning” philosophy and discussion of the necessary tools to overcome the obstacle of fear is what constitutes the foundation for his teaching platform.
THE LIVE PERFORMANCE PIECE |
In addition to the educational component of Tony's clinics, he also incorporates a live performance piece with his latest project, Galactic Duo. This project features Tony's original compositions expressed in a multi-dimensional universe of cosmic sound, combining his signature live looping and melodic improvisations with the rhythmic fusion of layered electronica tracks, collectively propelled through space and time by the intuitive groove and high energy brilliance of drummer, Ian Maciak. A flawless performance that can be summed up as an ethereal, drum and bass, jazz-fusion masterpiece! What a way to end an inspirational evening of music education...

EARLY YEARS
Tony was raised in a family where music was just another family member. His path toward becoming a musician was born out of an accident that nearly took his life.
